AUSTIN - On Friday, July 29, 2005, Senator Eliot Shapleigh will present, "A New Texas: Invest in Kids, Invest in Our Future" to over 100 educators at a seminar on school finance in Round Rock. Shapleigh has delivered this presentation in over 72 venues around the state.

"During the session, state leaders have set the priority as tax cuts," Senator Shapleigh stated. "The priority needs to be providing our children a 21st Century education so that they can compete for a good job in the 21st Century."

On how the legislature should accomplish this goal, Senator Shapleigh remarked, "If the Governor told any group in the state that he had a plan to lower your property taxes 90 percent, increased education funding for your schools so that they can hire motivated and certified teachers teaching a rigorous curriculum in state of the art classrooms, and that it delivered net tax cuts to 70 percent of Texans, that Governor would be the most popular Governor in state history. That's why 43 states have an income tax used to fund their education systems."

During this presentation, Senator Shapleigh will demonstrate how the state can accomplish these goals. All media are invited to attend this portion of the seminar on July 29, 2005, at 3:00 p.m., at the Austin Marriott North in Round Rock.
