Today, I received an inspiring e-mail from Bonnie Escobar recounting her experience in the Democratic caucus. She writes, "Today was a milestone for Texas voters ... I have attended numerous after election caucuses and thought I had seen it all, but tonight outshined everything."

"A Milestone for Texas Voters"

If I had a blog and wrote regular entries here is what I would say about tonight and the Texas Vote.

Today was a milestone for Texas voters, I have been voting religiously since I was 18 (1980, you do the math).  I have been working on campaigns and participated in the Democratic Party process for sometime and tonight was a highlight for me.

I have attended numerous after election caucuses and thought I had seen it all, but tonight outshined everything.

First, I have never seen a crowd like tonight, EVER.  We had 143 show up for our caucus and as long as I have been living in this neighborhood, I haven't seen more than 10.    We waited until 7:45 p.m. when everyone finished voting and everyone patiently waited to sign in, which took another 45 minutes. WOW!

Observation #2, despite the furvent nature of this election and the excitement on both sides, everyone was so respectful and NICE.  The Kerry Caucus was ugly and there was only a handful of us.  There were cheers everywhere and everyone took their turns.  And afterwards.... The Clinton people clapped for the Obama supporters and vice versa.  Made me feel like we were all in it together, no matter what.

Observation #3, never, ever, take for granted from where leadership will rise up.  Three men (two for Clinton, one for Obama) stood up and declared they wanted to be elected Caucus Chair and when the crowd was asked if there were anymore nominations, a young lady in the back stood up on a chair and declared, I nominate myself, we need a woman in the mix.  She didn't know what she was doing but she was obviously young, bright and fearless.  Well fearless wins hands down, the other guys didn't have a chance.

The evening ended, delegates were selected and people from every walk of life became involved.  Involved in a process we take for granted.  No telling how things will turn out in the next few months, but I am confident they will turn out well.

God Bless America!
