SENATOR SHAPLEIGH TO BRIEF MEDIA ON BRAC-RELATED LEGISLATION FILED

EL PASO – On Friday, March 9, Senator Shapleigh will brief the media on BRAC-related legislation he has filed in the 80th Legislative Session. The legislation discussed will include S.B. 960, S.B. 961, S.B. 962 and S.B. 374.
The 2005 round of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) is expected to bring to Ft. Bliss and El Paso over 20,000 soldiers. Current estimates place the total net population gain, including family members and other military dependents, at over 49,000 by 2011. BRAC is also expected to have a $4 billion annual impact on the local economy.
Recently, Senator Shapleigh filed the legislation to prepare the El Paso community for BRAC-related movement of troops and dependents.
The BRAC briefing will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home at 9650 Kenworthy St.
