Governor Rick Perry joins a long list of officials from states with a heavy military presence visiting Defense and Congressional leaders in Washington, D.C. in hopes of influencing decision-makers in their base closure and realignment decisions. Though the official Department of Defense (DoD) base realignment and closure (BRAC) timeline does not have initial realignment decisions being made until May, 2005, state and local leaders have been diligently communicating with decision makers regarding military installations and defense communities. Governor Perry is headed to Washington this week to urge decision makers to carefully evaluate Texas' installations, particularly vulnerable bases.
