Senator Shapleigh's notes and observations will keep you updated on what is happening behind the scenes in Austin and El Paso.

Sunrise Over Franklins

Here’s sunrise over South Franklin Peak. Nothing like a crisp, blue sky November morning to remind us how lucky we all are to live here in God’s Country.

We have an exciting session ahead. Right now, El Paso is the best place to be. With Ft. Bliss, our Medical Center of the Americas and Downtown Revitalization, El Paso is on the move.

In January, we will push through an emergency appropriation to fund the faculty we need to open our four year medical school. During session, we will pass bills and riders to take care of Ft. Bliss. We will fund UTEP’s program and improve the graduation rate to 50% by 2015.

We will start work on a comprehensive smart growth framework for El Paso so we don’t see more damage from floods like we did in August 2006. And we will work to educate our children and develop a 21st Century education system---always my #1 priority.

But for now, let’s enjoy the November days in the best place in Texas. And to all who helped in our campaign, se aventaron!

Keep the faith!
