McAllen, Brownsville, Laredo all feature in national Top 30 in new Milken Institute report.

The three South Texas border MSAs are creating jobs faster and performing better economically than the rest of the state, according to a new national report.

The Milken Institute Best Performing Cities index ranks U.S. metropolitan areas based upon their economic performance and their ability to create, as well as keep, the greatest number of jobs in the nation.

The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission MSA is ranked 18th in the nation, according to the Milken Institute. Brownsville-Harlingen-San Benito MSA ranks 24th and Laredo MSA ranks 28th. The next best Texas showing is Austin-San Marcos MSA, coming in at 64th. The best place for job growth and economic performance is Fort Myers-Cape Coral in Florida, the report states.
