On the Senator's Desk:
This week, Senator Shapleigh and Senator Barrientos (D-Austin) called for a special Joint Interim Committee to scrutinize all current and anticipated cotracts to be issued by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. The call was made in response to a recent State Auditor's report detailing the Commission's failure to achieve any of the $21.7 million savings promised by outsourcing payroll and human resources jobs to a private company.
Those who visited:
Senator Shapleigh went to San Antonio on Thursday to speak to business and education leaders and to a University of Texas at San Antonio class about school finance. This visit is one of many presentations Senator Shapleigh has done around the state.
Upcoming Events:
September 24th through October 30th is the 12th Annual Celebration of our Mountains. The Celebration is a month-long festival of events to encourage appreciation of the El Paso region’s environment. Nearly 50 hikes, field trips, driving tours, nature walks, bicycle rides and other activities will offered to the public through October 30th.
