For the second year in a row, there was not a single public Texas university ranked in the top 50 of the U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges." In comparison, the University of California System had six public universities ranked in the top 50. The University of Texas-El Paso was ranked in Tier 4, which is the lowest ranking classification for a university and begins at #191 for universities nationwide.
"For years, Texas’ radical leadership has failed to fund education, including universities," Senator Shapleigh stated in response to the rankings.
"For Texas not to have a single public university in the Top 50 will define our economy in the years to come. Increasingly, great universities define great opportunities. In a world where knowledge creates jobs, universities educate our best, commercialize our ideas, and move our people to prosperity. By failing to invest in education, we fail to invest in our future.”
