Are you a Robin Hood District?
February 17, 2005

Starting today, Senator Shapleigh will explain 10 of the slides in his "A New Texas: Invest in Texas, Invest in Our Future" school finance presentation.

Written by Senator Eliot Shapleigh,

Is the current school finance plan, commonly called Robin Hood, good or bad for you and your children?

Would you be surprised to learn that Robin Hood, seemingly demonized across the state, actually benefits the vast majority of our children? If you live in a part of Texas that is shaded green on this map, then your children are going to a school that receives money from Robin Hood, and it is a plan that works to benefit your community.

„X 9 in 10 Texas students, or 88%, receive state aid from Robin Hood.

„X While over 3,700,000 Texas students attend a Robin Hood school, only 490,000 students attend a non-Robin Hood school.

„X Nearly half of the students who would benefit from the elimination of Robin Hood live in only five school districts--Austin, Plano, Richardson, Round Rock and Spring Branch ISD.
