Since forming in 1993, the El Paso Affiliate has provided more than $2.2 million dollars to underserved men and women in El Paso, in 2007-2008 alone, providing more than $363,000 to the fight against breast cancer.

EL PASO – On Thursday, March 27, 2008, Senator Shapleigh will honor Susan G. Komen for the Cure with the "Adelante Con Ganas Award." Every month Senator Shapleigh awards one or more persons who have made an extraordinary commitment to service, family and community.
This month's honoree, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, celebrates 16 years in El Paso in 2008. On February 17, 2008, the El Paso race attracted a record 14,000 participants to their 16th annual Race for the Cure event at Smith Bliss Field on Fort Bliss.
The El Paso Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure grants up to 75 percent of all local fundraising proceeds to nonprofit organizations dedicated to breast cancer screening, treatment and education within El Paso county. Since forming in 1993, the El Paso Affiliate has provided more than $2.2 million dollars to underserved men and women in El Paso, in 2007-2008 alone, providing more than $363,000 to the fight against breast cancer.
The El Paso Affiliate is actively involved in outreach programs throughout El Paso, including a Teens for the Cure committee and the creation and distribution of Kits to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. As part of the Komen Texas Collaborative and along with the Lance Armstrong Foundation, American Cancer Society and the Texas Medical Association, they helped pass Proposition 15, which provided for the creation of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
