EL PASO – Senator Shapleigh will speak at the "Let's Talk About Tuberculosis: TB Does Not Know Borders" on Tuesday, March 18.
March 24th is World TB Day! TB is a disease caused by Mycobacterium that are passed from person to person through the air. TB usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body. In most cases, TB is treatable; however persons with TB can die if they do not get the proper treatment.
Increasingly, infectious Tuberculosis represents a serious social problem, great challenge and cost for the public health system. One-third of the world's population is infected with the bacterium that causes TB.
