Educational priorities?

Letter to the editor

Written by Monty Main, Malakoff, Dallas Morning News

It amazes me the governor and lieutenant governor have been able to shift the real issue of education in Texas from equity in each classroom
to property tax relief.

Schools are struggling to make ends meet and all we can talk about is dropping tax values. Shame on you, Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Gov. David
Dewhurst, for not allowing all options to be on the table - income tax included - when considering the fix for schools in Texas.

Educators are told more transparency is needed in spending, more efficiency, etc. Here is an efficiency model for you. My textbooks are over 10 years old and still haven't been replaced due to the $10 billion
shortage in the last budget cycle.

Funding for our programs was cut last budget cycle and we lost teachers in our school because the money isn't available to pay their salary.

Will someone in Austin please wake up and do something before all of the teachers in the state like myself throw up our hands in frustration and get a private sector job like the legislators?
