EL PASO – On Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 7:00 p.m., Senator Shapleigh will honor Angel Haney with the Adelante Con Ganas Award at her home in El Paso. Every month Senator Shapleigh awards one or more persons who have made an extraordinary commitment to service, family and community. This month's honoree, Angel Haney, is a five-year cancer survivor.
Diagnosed with breast cancer two months into her pregnancy with her son, Skylar, she underwent surgery and six rounds of chemotherapy to battle the deadly disease. Today, she is a special education teacher with the El Paso Independent School District and dedicates much of her own time to raising awareness about issues related to breast cancer.
October is breast cancer awareness month. The award ceremony will be held at the "Blu Goes Pink" Photography Fundraiser for breast cancer awareness hosted by El Paso Media Group and Susan G. Komen for the Cure at Club Blu, 209 S. El Paso St.
