Senator Shapleigh will be presenting bills addressing the uninsured during this 79th Legislative Session.

Senator Eliot Shapleigh will file more than 100 bills during this legislative session. The bills deal with issues ranging from school finance to Medicaid. Starting this week, we will profile some of the bills.
1) SB 69 - Restore Medicaid and CHIP to levels of 1/03
2) SB 70 - Require the state and school districts to consider whether or not a bidder of government contracts provides insurance to employees, before awarding a contract
3) SB 98 - Require school districts to ask on enrollment forms whether or not a child is insured, and refer the parent to a public insurance program if requested.
4) Require employers to provide health insurance, similar to Prop. 72 in CA
5) Require the TX Dept. of Insur. to publish info on the top 10 employers in the state who do not provide health insurance
6) An amendment to require HHSC to collect county-level data on the uninsured.
7) SB - 169 Sales tax and use tax credit to small businesses of 100 or fewer that provide Health benefits to workers.
