Return Shapleigh to office

Eliot Shapleigh should remain El Paso’s state senator in Austin.

His website declares that education is the top concern and that’s good. He correctly observes, “For us, education is a top priority. To compete for 21st century jobs, our children need a 21st century education.”

So Shapleigh has been active in authoring and sponsoring legislation ensuring that Texas students learn such basics as balancing a checkbook. Education is hugely important, and we need an education-savvy advocate in Austin. Shapleigh is that person.

The incumbent senator has worked to attain funding for El Paso’s four-year medical school. And in a high-visibility issue, Shapleigh has worked to keep the Asarco smelter from reopening and emitting pollutants into El Paso’s air…Shapleigh’s passion for El Paso is welcome.

We need experienced voices in Austin, and voters should return him to the District 29 state Senate seat.
