Red Cross Shelter at El Paso High

In response to concerns addressed by residents of areas affected by the recent flood, Senator Shapleigh, along with Canutillo, Town of Vinton and school officials, met at Canutillo Elementary School Thursday morning to inform victims of steps they could take in a successful recovery effort.

Suggestions included preserving photographs and/or video of damaged areas taken before the damage; taking photographs and/or video of damaged areas after the damage; and creating an inventory of valuables, including a physical description of the items and their estimated worth.

In the short term, the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul Church will provide clothing in the area for those in need. The Red Cross will also be on-hand to help with medical assistance. At the meeting, members of the community were informed that the Red Cross will be available to supply those in need of prescription medication that had been lost or that could not be obtained due to flooding. In addition, transportation will be provided by Canutillo ISD to the shelter.

The Canutillo Elementary School shelter is expected to be open throughout the weekend and into next week.

Those individuals requiring emergency care should dial 911; for other assistance with relief services, such as emergency housing, residents may dial 211.

The Red Cross in El Paso may be reached at (915) 592-0208.
