When faced with a national deficit, who should bare the burden? According to the recently approved bill it should be the poor, the elderly, the mothers, and the students who pay the price. In Congress, 216 Republicans voted to narrowly passed a budget-cutting package that will gravely affect the lives of many Americans.

Republicans urged the need to be fiscally responsible and curb the runaway growth of entitlement programs however are simultaneously working on preparations to pass a tax-cutting bill that will primarily benefit the wealthy.

In the mean time families in need will be faced with more stringent criteria to receive assistance, many elderly citizens will become ineligible for Medicaid while those still in the program will be forced to pay higher co-payments for services. College students will pay more as the interest rates of their college loans will be fluctuating, and single mothers will receive eves less support in their attempts to collect their child support. For the wealthy few, taxes go away; for the millions in the middle class, programs go away.
