On the Senator's Desk:
On Tuesday, November 8th, the voters of Texas voted on nine proposed Constitutional amendments and various local issues. While most of the news coverage has been about the passage of Proposition 2 - the amendment to define marriage - several other important measures were considered. For El Paso, the passage of Proposition One, creating a rail relocation and improvement fund, will be significant. This amendment gives the state the authority to create a fund to help communities address infrastructure needs and challenges. El Paso will have support in efforts to move the downtown rail out of the city's congested area.
Those who visited:
Senator Shapleigh was in San Antonio on Thursday talking to the Chambers of Commerce about issues facing the Texas Border Region. Specifically, the Senator talked at length about infrastructure needs and how investing in the Border will greatly affect the State's economy.
Upcoming events:
On Friday, November 11th, beginning at 7:00 PM, the Community Scholars Program will be holding a fundraiser at Ardovino's Desert Crossing Restaurant.
