On the Senator's Desk:
Senator Shapleigh met with Lt. Governor Dewhurst on Wednesday to discuss various issues that Senator Shapleigh sees as critically needing Legislative attention. With the Legislature only meeting every two years, special sessions aside, the interim period between Sessions allows Legislators and Staff to delve into the meat of issues facing Texas. Senator Shapleigh spends the year and a half between sessions working with constituents and stakeholders to both ensure that passed legislation is implemented to the letter of the law and determine what policy changes are necessary to make sure that the State best serves the needs of El Pasoans and Border residents. In his meeting with the Lt. Governor, Senator Shapleigh emphasized the need to address the health insurance crisis, as El Paso is the most uninsured community in Texas, the need to develop tighter regulations on predatory lenders and, of course, the need to implement an equitable school funding process.

Those who visited:
Senator Shapleigh did the visiting this week when he went to the UTEP Campus to speak with Professor Gregory Rocha's political science classes on Thursday morning.

Upcoming Events:

On Saturday, October 1 from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. there will be a United Blood Services of El Paso blood drive in the Lowe’s Home Improvement Parking Lot at 4531 Woodrow Bean. Given the recent crises on the Gulf Coast, blood is in high demand. All across America and especially in Texas, people are helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina and this blood drive is a chance for El Pasoans to do their part.
