u.s. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison filed to run for governor Monday at state Republican Party headquarters.

So, for any doubters out there, we now know that we really are going to see the long-awaited showdown between the two biggest names in Texas politics: Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry, a fellow Republican.

Hutchison rattled otT a familiar list of issues sl)e's stressing in her campaign: protecting private property rights, reforming the Texas Department of Transportation, protecting the borders, improving schools. She again criticized Perry for tryiDg to require schoolgirls to get a human papillomavirus immunization. And she reiterated that she's for term limits and unspecified limits on campaign contributions.

Asked about the entry into the race of popular Houston Mayor Bill White, a Democrat, she suggested that she would be the more electable Republican in the general election.

"No. I, I'm a conservative," Hutchison said. "And No.2, I have won elections by over 60 percent of the vote every time that I have been on tl1e ballot. Gov. Perry got 39 percent of the vote the last time he ran. So I think Republicans will look at winning, they will look at strengthening the Republican Party, and they will see that I am the candidate who can win."
