Right now El Paso is poised to move into a solar energy future. We are so excited that El Paso Electric, student leaders, and business stake holders will join together at the summit to talk about renewable energy.

EL PASO  Senator Eliot Shapleigh (D-El Paso) will host the 2009 Tu Comunidad Environmental Summit on Friday, September 25, at the Camino Real Hotel from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The summit is co-sponsored by El Paso Electric, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and the Office of El Paso County Attorney José Rodríguez. The goal of the summit is to provide accessible information on environmental and conservation issues to the public.

The theme of this year's summit is "A New Day in the Sun."

The summit will include remarks from Senator Eliot Shapleigh, El Paso County Attorney José Rodríguez, El Paso County Commissioner Veronica Escobar, and Commissioner of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Carlos Rubinstein.

In addition, a keynote presentation on "Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency" will be provided by Mr. David Stevens, Chief Executive Officer, El Paso Electric. In the afternoon, roundtable discussions will be held on electricity conservation, recycling, illegal dumping and air quality by city and government experts.
