EL PASO - On Friday, June 26, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the El Paso Zoo, Senator Eliot Shapleigh (D- El Paso) and local governmental and business offices will host an El Paso Pride Environmental Summit Fundraiser Dinner. Proceeds from the event will go toward the annual El Paso Pride Environmental Summit.
The summit was the result of several grassroots and community organizations coming together to identify local environmental challenges and their potential solutions, as well as to provide feedback on local environmental issues to the state legislature.
Each year, the office of Senator Shapleigh, the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ), El Paso Electric, El Paso Water Utilities, the City of El Paso and the Office of El Paso County Attorney Jose Rodriguez organize the summit.
This year’s summit will be held on September 25, 2009.
"To make El Paso the community that will attract talent, we must all work together on environmental issues. Our community pride shines when we take care of our environmental legacy," Senator Shapleigh said.
Friday’s fundraiser at the zoo will feature special guest comedian Patrick "Pat" Candelaria and former KVIA News Anchor, Gary Warner as Master of Ceremonies.
