SENATOR SHAPLEIGH TO HOST PRESS CONFERENCE FOR TEXAS NATIONAL GUARD PEN PAL PROJECT

Elementary school students from Canutillo, Socorro, Ysleta, Clint and El Paso school districts have participated in the pen pal project, writing more than 1,700 letters.

EL PASO – On Wednesday May 21, 2008, at 9:30 a.m., Senator Shapleigh will host a press conference for the Texas National Guard Pen Pal Project.

The project is a letter writing campaign that gives area school children the opportunity to express their gratitude to our troops serving throughout the state. Elementary school students from Canutillo, Socorro, Ysleta, Clint and El Paso school districts have participated in the pen pal project, writing more than 1,700 letters. These letters will now be sorted and distributed to Texas National Guard armories throughout the state.

Students from Escontrias Early Childhood Center will participate in the press conference.  The press conference will be held at the Texas National Guard office, 9100 Gateway North on the corner of US 54 and Hondo Pass.
