EL PASO - On Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 10 a.m., at EPCC Administrative Service Center, Senator Eliot Shapleigh (D-El Paso) will honor Steven Munoz with the "Adelante Con Ganas" Award for the month of November. Every month Senator Shapleigh awards one or more persons who have made an extraordinary commitment to service, family and community.
Steven Munoz, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served in 2004 as a 2nd lieutenant, assisting a combat engineer battalion in the planning and execution of logistics support, and again in 2006 as a headquarters company executive officer in charge of a 244-soldier company.
Steven Munoz earned several commendations for his military service, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Iraq Campaign medal. He was also recognized by his battalion commander for increasing the unit's combat readiness and helping to ensure its success during operations.
Following his military service, Steven Munoz earned a master of business administration degree in finance from the The University of Texas at El Paso. He currently works as an intern for the Wall Street Warfighters Foundation in a program that trains and mentors veterans for leadership positions in the financial sector.
Steven Munoz holds a keen interest in the areas of international political economics, fixed income investment, and portfolio management. His long-term goal is to gain in-depth financial analysis expertise so that he may help clients reach their goals.
Senator Shapleigh will interview Steven Munoz about the role of U.S military around the world on his monthly TV show− "Austin in Focus."
